In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt.
In a separate bowl, beat the butter and brown sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the egg, molasses, and vanilla extract, and beat until well combined.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
Divide the dough in half, wrap in plastic, and chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
